Methodology and sources
The source population is the 7,038 built-up places in the Postcodes UK towns list with a recorded elevation. Its median elevation is 62 metres. Rows are ordered by absolute distance from that median, then by elevation and place name for deterministic tie-breaking; all 1,000 selected places are within 10 metres of the median.
