How the Two Areas Compare
Choosing between two areas, whether for a house move, a new job or simply out of curiosity, usually means juggling half a dozen questions at once. Which is cheaper? Which has better schools? Which is better connected? This tool puts two postcodes side by side and answers all of those in one go, using real data rather than reputation.
What We Compare
For each postcode you enter we line up six measures: the typical house price in the area, the deprivation decile, the elevation, the population of the postcode district, the distance to the nearest railway station, and the number of schools nearby, including how many are rated Outstanding. Together they give a rounded picture of what living in each place is actually like.
Understanding the Numbers
House prices are the average paid for homes in the area since 2024. The deprivation decile runs from 1, the most deprived tenth of the nation, to 10, the least deprived, and is a useful shorthand for the general affluence of an area. Elevation tells you how high above sea level the postcode sits, which matters for flood risk and for views. The nearest station distance is measured in a straight line, so the real journey may be a little longer.
A Quick Comparison, Not the Last Word
This tool is built for a fast, fair side-by-side. It will not tell you about the neighbours, the local pub or the school run traffic, and no single number captures what makes somewhere feel like home. For a deeper look at any one area, including its crime, demographics and recent sales, head to our full postcode area report. Use this tool to narrow things down, then dig into the detail.
