Methodology and sources
Every unique place pair is considered when its latitude difference is no more than 0.10 degrees, approximately 11 kilometres north to south. Qualifying pairs are ranked by great-circle distance. This represents broadly east-to-west spans between places, not a surveyed coastline width.
